Poorly performing franchisee Workshop – Feb 2025

$284.05

I’m an ex franchisor, married to a retired franchisor.

Having been a corporate HR consultant for over 30 years specialising in working with high performing teams, I thought I knew a thing or two about recruitment, training and performance managing people, yet when I decided to franchise my team-building business, I found out the hard way, that I knew NOTHING about any of those things when recruiting people for a franchised business.

I sold 11 team-building franchises in 18 months, and my husband, who had 32 accounting franchises, was amazed. It had taken him 7 years to sell that many franchises.

And then one by one we watched my franchises fall over.

MY mistakes were:

  1. I’d been recruiting the wrong types of people
  2. I’d assumed they’d follow my system to the letter
  3. I assumed they would easily learn how to build a business even though they’d never run a business before
  4. I assumed they would listen to my advice about how to build a team-building business, given I’d been running such a business for 30 years.

Dumb hey?

So, if you’re a franchisor reading this, and you relate to MY 4 mistakes, read on.

I’m joining forces with Chris Baker (PeopleMaps) to help franchisors deal with THEIR poor performers, those people like my people who:

  • Don’t like following your system
  • Just seem to want a 9 – 5 job
  • Have no interest in ‘growing’ their franchise
  • Don’t listen to feedback, coaching, mentoring or advice
  • Blame you for why their franchise isn’t as successful as it should be given their investment
